I find it amazing how many companies out there are a “jack-of-all-trades” or one stop shops.
I was speaking with a customer about how to build a successful site. What I felt was the most effective way to lay it out.
He stated a “friend of mine” is going to help them. They preferred going with a cheap option and this friend was really “good” on “the computer”.
I expect to hear from him soon.
Since when was web design so simple that anyone “good on the computer” could do it?
Why are some people paying tens of thousands of dollars to develop their site while others think they can get away with developing a site for a hundred dollars and get similar results?
I guarantee you that serious companies who invest time and money into the web are doing so for good reason.
Normally it’s easy to tell who has a good chance of making their website successful.
These people understand the internet is changing. Constant testing is needed: different headlines, offers and article content. All of these together help the website owner achieve their goals.
Or possible the website is for internal purposes. Designed for organizational or member management.
Point being, they know why they’ve built it and how they can make it better. A recipe for success!
Your first important objective to selecting a web design company.
- Do they realize your website is designed to meet your business objectives?
- Do they understand its not just a promotion tool or online business card?
Here’s why I say this…
I’ve worked with many developers and designers. And they often are very particular about their design.
Request a change?
You better duck!
All joking aside, you must have a web design company that can assist with your testing, and suggest practical changes that will assist your business.
One other factor in finding the right web design company is obviously their portfolio.
- Do they have a list of websites they’ve worked on across different industries?
- Can they adapt to your business and build a site that communicates your brand?
It’s easy for us to get swept away by fantastic design, even though the website itself may accomplish nothing for the business. In my opinion that’s unacceptable.
And why testing and flexibility is key to your business.
Now, I could go into the technical details of what else is absolutely essential when building a website, but that is for another time.
Does your website need a make-over?
Note: Yes, we are a web design company in Mississauga; that’s located just outside Toronto, Ontario. BUT we have wonderful clients all over the world. United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, United States, Canada and I’m surely missing some.
